KaleidoscopeME® In Action!

Video Production • Motion Graphic • Animation

September 8, 2021 - November 21, 2021

Overview

KaleidoscopeME® in Action! is a music video made for the Savage-Katz Production. The founder of Savage-Katz Production, Liza Savage-Katz, is also the founder of the program KaleidoscopeME®.

This video is a team effort. Without my team backing me up, I would not have been able to finish this project.

Initially, this video was supposed to be a GoFundMe Promo Video.

This is the final version of the video. With motion graphics, and animation.

All people are credited properly in the video.

Process

Initial Video

This project was originally a GoFundMe project. Before I started the “KaleidoscopeME™ in Action!”.

There were problems with the GoFundMe project.

  • Some of the people (mainly co-workers) on the video do not work for KaleidoscopeMe™ anymore.

  • Some of the clips do not match the message of the video.

But, this video does serve as a base to make another version for GoFundMe.

I passed it on to a co-worker to complete the GoFundMe so that I can work on other projects.

The song “Love, Peace, and Harmony” is written by BRAXTON. & JB.

Version 1

The video is four minutes long. I have the entire song in the video. Liza and my team gave me a critique of my video. I also participated in critiquing my video.

Critiques my team added while watching the video:

  • Add animations to improve the video. These animation clips will include other people’s work Liza has in her assets.

  • Remove the clips of individual kids. These kids’ video clips were about three to four years old and all grown up. So it would be wise not to use them.

  • Make the video shorter. We don’t have to use excessive filler or unrelated clips to fill the rest of the video.

  • Include 3D characters for the animals

Motion Graphic

This motion graphics video I made was in Adobe After Effects.

The character illustration was produced by MJ Swartwort.

Version 2

The version I worked on looks better than the second one. I was able to work on critiques on the video. I added animations that Liza has. The video needs work to become better. Liza and my co-workers help solve the problem to make the video better. Liza and my coworkers help solve the problem.

Critiques I receive:

  • 0:46 and 1:41 - Make animation.

  • 3:16 - Swap out the image for an animation piece for this.

  • 1:17 - Liza proposes the idea of using the photos she has to use them as video. She was also the one who suggested adding animation to the video.

  • 2:00 - Change the text on the time mark.

    1. From “This was the first online class on KaliedoscopeMe” to “Our First Free Virtual Yoga Online class during the course of the Pandemic” (Yes. I misspelled the word Kaleidoscope).

    2. Liza was teaching yoga during the pandemic of 2020.

  • 2:31 to 2:34 - Add a video clip to this section. It’s just a black space.

  • 2:43 - Liza has the higher image quality to provide.

  • 3:09 to 3:20 - The character Tux, the penguin, is missing. Add a picture of Tux.

What I did:

  • 2:47 - I added 2D animation made by Jess MacDonald.

  • 3:19 - I add the 3D Model of the Animal Characters by Deidre Corrigan and Cameron Burnside.

  • Some of the video clips swap with a different hook. I did this to match the lyrics.

  • 3:09 - Added a short animation. Ella, the tiger, surrounded by lights shaped like a star.

Motion Graphic

This motion graphics video I made was in Adobe After Effects.

The character illustration was produced by MJ Swartwort.

Version 3

I made a majority amount of changes for this video. But, I still needs some work to be done.

What I did:

  • 1:17 to 1:37 - I added an animation for the photo gallery.

  • 2:00 - I change the text to “Our First Free Virtual Yoga Online class during the course of the Pandemic.”

  • 2:31 to 2:34 - I add a video clip to this section.

  • 2:43 - Swap with an image Liza provided.

  • 3:15 - I added an animation of Olly, the otter, watching the fireflies moving inside the jar. I also animated it.

Critiques I receive:

  • 0:45 to 0:47 and From 1:41 to 1:43 - add animation. It’s a 2 second still that does nothing.

  • Add the end credit of everyone involved in this video. I did not want to take credit for animations, photos, and images I did not produce. I cannot do this video without a team. I’m not taking credit on something I did not do.

Olly’s Animation

A simple animation of fireflies moving the jar. I use Adobe After Effects on the layer to use the wiggle effect on individual fireflies.

I also use Adobe Photoshop to make the jar empty. So I have more freedom to move the fireflies without seeing copies of fireflies staying in place.

Original Image

This image is the original of Olly’s animation.

Emily O'Shea produces this image along with the 3D model.

Final Version

This video is the final version. I added the animations and added the end credit to everyone involved.

What I did:

  • 0:45 to 0:47 and From 1:41 to 1:43 - I add animations.

  • 0:45 - I animated three boys holding hands and raising their hands.

  • 1:41 - I animated a girl holding a brush and a dog running.

  • Added the end credit of everyone involved.

Three Boys

I hand-drawn animation of the three boys holding each other’s hands and raising them. The asset was given to me by Liza.

Running Girl and Dog

I hand-drawn animation of a girl holding a brush and a dog running the plains. The only thing that is not hand-drawn is the plains and the rainbow. I used Adobe After Effects to rotate the field and puppet tool for the rainbow.

The asset was given to me by Liza.

Conclusion

I had fun making this video. Working on the animation is fun. The Savage-Katz Production posted it on YouTube. I learned more about the organization.
