KaleidoscopeME™ In Action!

Video Production, Motion Graphic, & Animation

September 8, 2021 - November 21, 2021

Overview

KaleidoscopeME™ in Action! is a music video made for the Savage-Katz Production. The founder of Savage-Katz Production, Liza Savage-Katz, is also the founder of the program KaleidoscopeME™.

This video is a team effort. Without my team backing me up, I would not have been able to finish this project.

Initially, this video was supposed to be a GoFundMe Promo Video.

This is the final version of the video. With motion graphics, and animation.

All people are credited properly in the video.

Process

Initial Video

This project was originally a GoFundMe project. Before I started the “KaleidoscopeME™ in Action!”.

There were problems with the GoFundMe project.

  1. Some of the people (mainly co-workers) on the video do not work for KaleidoscopeMe™ anymore.

  2. Some of the clips do not match the message of the video.

But, this video does serve as a base to make another version for GoFundMe.

I passed it on to a co-worker to complete the GoFundMe so that I can work on other projects.

The song “Love, Peace, and Harmony” is written by BRAXTON. & JB.

Version 1

Overview

The video is four minutes long. I have the entire song in the video. Liza and my co-workers gave me a critique of my video. I also participated in critiquing my video.

Critiques me and my team added while watching the video:

  1. Add animations to improve the video. These animation clips will include other people’s work Liza has in her assets.

  2. Remove the clips of individual kids. These kids’ video clips were about three to four years old and all grown up. So it would be wise not to use them.

  3. Make the video shorter. We don’t have to use excessive filler or unrelated clips to fill the rest of the video.

  4. Include 3D characters for the animals.

Conclusion

I listened to all the critiques we made about the video. Then, I kept notes and worked on the second version of the promo video.

Motion Graphic

This motion graphics video I made was in Adobe After Effects.

The character illustration was produced by MJ Swartwort.

Version 2

Overview

The version I worked on looks better than the second one. I was able to work on critiques on the video. I added animations that Liza has. The video needs work to become better. Liza and my co-workers help solve the problem to make the video better. Liza and my coworkers help solve the problem.

What I did:

  1. I added 2D animation made by Jess MacDonald.

  2. I add the 3D Model of the Animal Characters by Deidre Corrigan and Cameron Burnside,

  3. Some of the video clips swap with a different hook. I did this to match the lyrics.

  4. Added a short animation in 3:09. Ella, the tiger, surrounded by lights shaped like a star.

Critiques I receive:

  1. Make animation on 0:46 and 1:41

  2. Swap out the image for 3:16 and make an animation piece for this.

  3. 1:17 Liza proposes the idea of using the photos she has to use them as video. She was also the one who suggested adding animation to the video.

  4. Change the text on the time mark of 2:00.

    1. From “This was the first online class on KaliedoscopeMe” to “Our First Free Virtual Yoga Online class during the course of the Pandemic” (Yes. I misspelled the word Kaleidoscope).

    2. Liza was teaching yoga during the pandemic of 2020.

  5. From 2:31 to 2:34 - Add a video clip to this section.

  6. Change image in 2:43. Liza has the higher image quality and provided it for me.

  7. From 3:09 to 3:20 - The character Tux, the penguin, is missing. Add a picture of Tux.

Conclusion

In conclusion, my team and I want to make this video better than the last version. Also, I wanted to add animation to make it stand out more.

Ella’s Animation

This animation is a flicker of lights. This animation's inspiration is that stars are hanging on the blinds. So the first thing that came to my mind was flickering lights.

Emily O'Shea produces the 3D model along with this image.

Version 3

Overview

This version still needs some work to be done.

What I did:

  1. From 1:17 to 1:37 - I added an animation for the photo gallery.

  2. On 2:00 - I change the text to “Our First Free Virtual Yoga Online class during the course of the Pandemic.”

  3. From 2:31 to 2:34 - I add a video clip to this section.

  4. I changed the image in 2:43 that Liza provided for me.

  5. At 3:15, I add an animation of Olly, the otter, watching the fireflies moving inside the jar.

Critiques I receive:

  1. From 0:45 to 0:47 and From 1:41 to 1:43 - add animation. It’s a 2 second still that does nothing.

  2. Add the end credit of everyone involved in this video. I did not want to take credit for animations, photos, and images I did not produce. I cannot do this video without a team.

Conclusion

In conclusion, I want to improve the video by adding animation on the time stamps 0:45 and 1:41 instead of an image. It would make the video more attractive.

Olly’s Animation

A simple animation of fireflies moving the jar. I use Adobe After Effects on the layer to use the wiggle effect on individual fireflies.

I also use Adobe Photoshop to make the jar empty. So I have more freedom to move the fireflies without seeing copies of fireflies staying in place.

Original Image

This image is the original of Olly’s animation.

Emily O'Shea produces this image along with the 3D model.

Final Version

Overview

This video is the final version. I added the animations and added the end credit to everyone involved.

  1. From 0:45 to 0:47 and From 1:41 to 1:43, I add animations.

    • At 0:45, I animated three boys holding hands and raising their hands.

    • In 1:41, I animated a girl holding a brush and a dog running.

  2. Added the end credit of everyone involved.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the video finished production. I had fun making these animations, motion graphics, and editing these videos.

Three Boys

I hand-drawn animation of the three boys holding each other’s hands and raising them.

Running Girl and Dog

I hand-drawn animation of a girl holding a brush and a dog running the plains. The only thing that is not hand-drawn is the plains and the rainbow. I used Adobe After Effects to rotate the field and puppet tool for the rainbow.

Conclusion

I had fun making this video. Working on the animation is fun. The Savage-Katz Production posted it on YouTube. I learned more about the organization.
